Ricoh to Build New Manufacturing Facility in Japan

This new facility will accelerate its inkjet business in a building with automation, logistics innovation, and AI.

Ricoh Company, Ltd. announced plans to construct a new facility at its Atsugi Manufacturing Site in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, to accelerate the growth of its inkjet business and strengthen its supply capabilities to meet growing demand for high-quality inkjet heads.

Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2026, with completion planned for the first half of fiscal 2028.

The new facility will provide the capacity to more than double current inkjet head production over time.

By combining Ricoh’s strengths in ultra-precision manufacturing and quality engineering with automation, AI and digital manufacturing technologies, the company will build a next-generation manufacturing platform designed to deliver high quality, productivity and supply reliability.

The new facility will consolidate manufacturing functions currently distributed across multiple buildings at the Atsugi Manufacturing Site and introduce automated production lines and robotics capable of flexibly producing a wide range of products, enabling high levels of productivity and operational flexibility.

Koji Miyao, President, Ricoh Graphic Communications and Senior Corporate Officer, Ricoh Company, Ltd., said, “This new facility is a strategic investment in the future of Ricoh’s inkjet business and in our ability to meet the evolving needs of customers worldwide. By combining the expertise and craftsmanship cultivated by our people with AI and digital technologies, we are creating a next-generation factory where people and AI work together, further enhancing our manufacturing competitiveness and accelerating the growth of our inkjet business. We also plan to share the technologies and expertise developed at this facility across the Ricoh Group, carrying forward and further advancing our ultra-precision manufacturing capabilities for the future.”

Ricoh will also capture and digitize the expertise and know-how of its skilled technicians and use AI to apply this knowledge in production and quality decision-making.

This combination of human expertise and AI will help preserve and transfer valuable manufacturing expertise to future generations, enable employees to focus on higher value-added activities, and support the consistent delivery of high-quality products.

In addition, Ricoh will digitally connect production equipment, quality management and logistics operations. Combined with automated material handling, this integrated approach will optimize the flow of materials and information throughout the factory, enabling Ricoh to respond flexibly to changing demand while supporting the rapid and reliable delivery of high-quality products.
